Current OFF-LEASH DOG PARK, KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

The City of Crystal operates a special area in Bassett Creek Park for dogs to be off leash. There is a regular dog park and a separate area for small or less confident dogs. This is a place where dogs and their owners/handlers can recreate together in a safe environment for free. However, you are using this park at your own risk. Injuries are uncommon but may occur during normal play or because of aggressive behavior. It is essential that dog owners have verbal control of their dogs at all times. Before you head to the dog park, here are a few things you should know.

What are the requirements for my dog to enter the off-leash dog park?
•Dog must be at least 6 months old, healthy and in good physical condition.
•Dog must have a current rabies vaccination, with rabies tag affixed to dog’s collar.
•Dogs must be under the owners verbal control at all times.
•Dogs must come to you at all times, even when at play.
•Dogs in heat are not allowed in the park.
•Dogs registered as dangerous in any jurisdiction are not permitted to visit the off-leash dog park.

Why would my dog need to leave the off-leash dog park?
•Your dog shows aggressive behavior towards people or other dogs in the area. If this happens, you must leave. However, if your dog attacks/bites another dog or their handler, even if injuries are not severe, you should stay until police arrive.
•Your dog repeatedly “mounts” other dogs.
•Your dog becomes overheated. (Look for excessive panting, vomiting, collapse)
•Your dog shows signs of illness or injury; limping, diarrhea, coughing, etc.

What should I do if my dog or I get injured while using the dog park?
If serious injury occurs, call 9-1-1 immediately.
•Remain calm and be courteous.
•Exchange contact information with the other handler and any witnesses, including rabies vaccination numbers. If you must leave for immediate veterinary attention, ask a witness to get this information.
•If the other owner refuses to provide contact information, get their vehicle’s license plate number.
•Report all injuries/incidents to the Crystal Police Department by calling 911.

What else do I need to know before using the off leash dog park?
•Limit of 2 dogs per handler.
•Dogs must be on a 6’ leash while entering and exiting the park.
•Handlers must pick up and properly dispose of feces.
•No food or treats are allowed in the dog park. This includes treat flavored chew toys or flavored balls.
•Children under the age of 12 must have supervision at all times.
