January Update
Posted on 01/04/2021
Happy New Year! The Crystal Parks and Recreation Department strives to make Crystal a great City to live, work and play. Here is what we are up to this month.

Program Summary:

Winter Recreation
With the addition of the colder temps and snow towards the end of December, the winter recreation areas in Crystal are ready to be enjoyed. Lace up your skates, grab your sled and get outside for some fun!

Split Brochure
With COVID-19 throwing a wrench in most of our timelines, we have decided to split our spring & summer brochure into two different volumes, allowing us more time to plan through August 2021. The first volume will arrive in homes by March 1.

Bandstand Bingo
Name that tune meets bingo! Match the Disney song to the corresponding picture for a chance to win recreation prizes or gift certificates. Play as a family, or play solo on your preferred electronic device.

Donut Talk
The Donut Make You Wonder series will begin the year with a virtual presentation remembering the Challenger and Columbia space shuttle disasters. Attendees will have to provide their own donuts.

Projects Summary:

Grant Funding for Accessibility
Valley Place Park will have some major accessibility upgrades around the new playground thanks to a Hennepin County Youth Sports Grant. New trail connections will be made, along with building upgrades.

Valley Place Building Upgrades
Staff have been making significant updates to the interior of the Valley Place park building. Improvements include removing an old dividing wall, making restrooms ADA compliant and adding windows.

Fire Ring - Becker Park
The fire ring at Becker Park has been getting some use over the holiday break. Park patrons are encouraged to bring their own wood and use the fire ring when available. It adds great ambiance to the new skate oval.

Washer/Dryer
A washer and dryer are being added to the community center, allowing staff to launder our own cloths, rags, towels and mops. The new appliances will be more eco-friendly and cost effective.
